Sergio Perez, affectionately known as ‘Checo’, celebrates his 29th birthday this week.

The eight time podium scoring driver has established himself as one of Mexico’s greatest entities – along with Corona and Salma Hayek.

Tributes and well wishes have flooded in for Perez, with seemingly everyone acknowledging the Racing Point F1 Team driver.

Everyone except team owner Lawrence Stroll.

Stroll, whose previous investments include Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors, seemingly has no existing knowledge of his son’s more experienced team mate.

“What’s a Checo? … Is that an engine spec?”

Eyebrows were first raised after these choice words from Mr Stroll at a recent sponsors junket.

“We have two perfectly equipped drivers who are ready to take us to the next level in 2019… My son Lance, and the other one.”

But eventually Mr Stroll came round.

“Ohhhhhhhh” Lawrence sighed as the penny dropped, followed by several hundred million pennies.

“Sergio PEREZ? I call him Sergio Stroll!” he revealed.

In an attempt to maintain teammate harmony, Lance was recently overheard asking his father for money to buy Perez a birthday gift.

“Just buy him some lottery tickets and stick them in a card,” grumbled the disgruntled Mr Stroll during the pair’s fortnightly ‘Father-Son Fencing.’

Happy Birthday Checo!
