Throughout the offseason there were strong whispers from Renault that their 2019 challenger would be 99% new.

Now, in their online launch event on Tuesday the team has confirmed the 1% that carries over from 2018 is the 2018 car.

“YEAH, ABOUT THAT…” Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul BEGAN, DIGGING A GIANT HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AUDITORIUM.

“We meant to say 99% was exactly the same” Abiteboul told us.

“The 1% is Ricciardo”

But a defiant Abiteboul wasn’t backing down from the team’s original statement.

“99% of all the components on the car are absolutely brand new. They just happen to be the same design as 2018”

“The 1% of the car that isn’t brand new is the sticker that says Hulkenberg”

The design of the 2019 Renault was inspired by the legendary 2018 Renault that delighted fans with a combined total of 0 race victories and 0 podium finishes.

“It’s one of those pinch yourself moments” newcome Daniel Ricciardo told the press.

“Growing up, I had a picture of the 2018 Renault on my bedroom wall” the Australian told reporters.

“I’m 29”

Long term driver Nico Hulkenberg was equally thrilled.

“It’s not every year you get to drive a car like this” said the man who has driven a car like this for the last two years.
