Red Bull have confirmed new driver Pierre Gasly will start the Bahrain Grand Prix on the full wet tyre.
“He’s on thin ice” Red Bull Racing Special Advisor and former Bond Villain Dr Helmut Marko confirmed.
“So the full wets are the best option at the moment”
“Still – he’ll have more rear grip than he had in Q2” Dr Marko said.
Gasly is under significant pressure to perform, after poor showings in all of his showings in Australia and Bahrain.
The Frenchman starts the grand prix from 13th, whilst his teammate Max Verstappen will line up 5th.
The team also confirmed Gasly will likely come in for one stop, to bolt on a set of the aqua striped Glacier tyres.
“We’ll also put the snow chains on” Dr Marko confirmed.
“These tyres degrade really quickly”
“You’ve got to really get them up to temperature, but then the ice melts. So it’s not ideal”
It comes as reports surfaced on Saturday the team would employ team orders on Sunday’s race.
“Pierre’s recieved the order, he knows the plan” Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner cofnirmed.
“He knows to let Danii Kvyat through by Turn 1”
