Toro Rosso fans in Bangkok went wild as Thailand born Alex Albon was awarded Driver of the Day for the Chinese Grand Prix.

Hundreds of thousands of jubilant fans poured onto the streets to dance and party, tipping over tuk tuks and lighting fireworks in celebration.

“This is the best day of my life!” said a young Thai fan, tears of joy streaming down his face.

“This is the best thing to happen in Thailand” others told us.

“Free Tuk-Tuk rides for anyone named Alex,” one driver yelled.

Celebrations are expected to last long into the night, as Albon secured 1 World Championship point.

It’s reported Toro Rosso merchandise is flying off the Thai Market shelves.

“Genuine quality” one salesmen told us.

The Thai Government declared the day a National Holiday, and announced that Albon will be treated to a ticker-tape parade upon his return.

However, he faces a similar problem to the issue he had in China.

“He will have to start the ticker tape parade from pit lane” a Thai official confirmed.

More details as they come to hand.
